Yes, I’ve had the cushy-sounding titles. Tax Consultant at EY. Tax Methodologist at Allianz. Tax Contracts Manager at Amazon. But the truth behind these titles? Long hours of juggling high-stakes contracts review, massive corporate income tax returns, and cross-border tax advisory.

I’ve whispered insights about strategic tax risks into the ears of higher-ups and trained whole teams on policy —but despite all the wins and progress, I still felt like I was missing something fundamental.

Even with all the fancy titles and achievements, I kept running into the same wall—I was invisible.

The Shift

Despite delivering excellent work, I was lost in the noise, struggling to stand out. And let’s be honest: when you're working remotely, that sense of invisibility can swallow you whole.

That was my turning point. After years of being stuck in the grind, I realized that simply working hard is not enough. I needed to work smarter—to navigate the corporate landscape differently.

It wasn’t about over-delivering or putting in more hours; it was about knowing how to play the game strategically. By the time I was promoted to Tax Contracts Manager at Amazon, I wasn’t just reviewing global contracts and assessing tax risk anymore—I was a part of big projects that merged law, tax, and automation. One of the projects I led was the development of a groundbreaking Generative AI tool that could review contracts, assess tax risks, and ensure compliance at scale.

This wasn’t just an internal project—it gained attention outside of Amazon’s walls. In fact, it was covered by The Wall Street Journal in their article Amazon Leans Into Generative AI to Manage Its Finances. The project revolutionized how Amazon handled contracts globally, making contracts review process smarter, faster, and most importantly, more accurate through the power of GenAI.

Translation? I wasn’t just part of a machine—I was the mind improving it. I wasn't in some back-office role pushing papers. I was at the cutting edge, blending tax, law, finance, and technology to drive efficiency in ways that transformed the business on a global scale—all while working remotely for much of it.

With multinational projects that spanned EMEA, US and APAC, I know firsthand the struggles of balancing complex corporate demands with the isolation of remote work. I’ve seen the fine line between excellence and burnout, between being a "hidden asset" as a remote employee and being completely forgotten.
